| World AIDS Day 2011: DevComs engages Media in Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin and Kaduna |
In commemoration of the World AIDS Day 2011 which had the theme titled “Getting to zero”, four media forums were organised consecutively in Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin and Kaduna, to further create awareness on the issues of HIV/AIDS and also provide linkages between family planning and HIV/AIDS.
The forums served as an avenue to strengthen the already drowning voices on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, and ensure that proper linkages were made clear on the need for integration of family planning with HIV/AIDS.
The decision to organise these media forums to commemorate the world AIDS Day 2011 was an agreement between DevComs and NURHI, which was represented by the advocacy advisor.

Development Communications (DevComs) Network through its Journalism Development Programme (JDP) on Education Sector in Nigeria has awarded eight journalists from six states of the federation and the FCT, for effectively reporting the status of the Nigerian Education Sector.
The award presentation held at Bolingo Hotel and Towers, Abuja on Wednesday, was the completion of the Journalism Development Programme on the Education Sector which span between August 2010 and September 2011 to build broad based understanding and action towards the acceptance and support for initiatives on reform in the education sector in Nigeria. The low quality of education in Nigeria has been blamed on poor funding and corruption within the education sector, leading to unpaid teachers’ salaries, degradation of education facilities, and strikes at all levels of education.
This was disclosed during an award presentation organized by Development Communications (DevComs) Network to recognize eight journalists who have shown a high degree of commitment and outstanding performance towards reporting the education sector in Nigeria.
