MENTORING

Mentoring involves the transmission of skills and knowledge to the mentees. In DevComs, we work with experienced team members, who are experts and assume responsibility on national and international level of the development work. Our practice oriented mentorship style, links up-coming journalists to established media experts who identify, strengthen and sharpen the skills of individual mentee. This we do, knowing that only people can affect process and change.

Mentoring of journalists reporting the education beat was carried out by Development Commnications Network under the Journalism Development Programme (JDP) aimed at building broad based understanding and action towards the acceptance and support for initiatives on reform in the education sector in Nigeria.

This activity provided the needed opportunity for the participants to be linked with four experienced media experts who were known as mentors. Mentoring of the journalists ensure that the individual journalist is appropriately guided and directed on how to go about stories that will make impact.

We also mentor young people (both Nigerians and non-Nigerians from Africa, Europe, etc) as volunteers. The essence of this is to build great leaders who will contribute to the field of development and their immediate environment.
