TEAM MEMBERS
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE:
The Programme Director, Programme
Manager and the Unit heads functions as the Management Committee, which
shall be the consultative decision-making organ of the organization.
The Programme Director is the head of the Management
team and is responsible for the day-to-day programmatic decisions,
coordination and supervision and also chair
all the Management Committee meetings. The Programme
Manager acts in this same capacity in the absence of the Programme Director.
The
Management Committee meet every Monday by 10:00
a.m.
PROMPT.
Functions
of the Management Committee include:
• Programme planning, review and
assessment
• Proposal conceptualization and development
• Review and projections of weekly activities
• Staff welfare and development
• Review and approval of monthly, quarterly, and yearly unit and
organization-wide work-plans.
UNIT OPERATION AREAS: The Operational
Units are established to ensure effectiveness and appropriate division
of labour within the organization. The
Operational units are seven in number namely:
1. Office

3. Training and Capacity
Building
4. Research and Communication
5. Policy and Advocacy
6. Broadcast Media
7. Administration and Finance
Each unit
is headed by a Unit Head who is responsible for designing and
implementing the Unit’s work-plan and other related operational
activities falling into the Unit’s operational ideas.
Unit heads
have full authority to design and execute programmes within their
respective units, subject to approval by the Management Committee. All
the units are interdependent on one-another; however each unit will be
autonomous and implement their work-plans innovatively. This
arrangement will enable the unit heads and staff members to exercise
greater initiative in the discharge of their duties, and to work more
cohesively as a team. It will also give more room for learning by
doing, and for staff members to task their innate potentials for
success.
To ensure
that each unit work cohesively, unit members are provided with an
appropriate work-space.

• Lead in the development of yearly, quarterly and monthly unit
work-plans
• Ensure implementation of organizational policies as it affects
programmes
• Assist the Programme Director in
overall running of the organization
Training and Capacity
Building (TCB)
• Organize and coordinate all training programmes aimed at staff
and stakeholders including workshops, seminars, roundtables etc
• Conduct training needs assessment for staff and stakeholders,
and plan training programme accordingly
• Manage and coordinate the Internship and Mentoring Programmes
• Identify and develop other capacity needs of DEVCOMS main
stakeholders – the journalists and media institutions – and
develop plans to address these needs
• Identify and develop annual, quarterly and monthly training
plans for staff and stakeholders
• Identify and develop a database of trainers, consultants and
resource persons for all organization’s projects and activity
areas.
• Maintain and update a database of all beneficiaries and
participants in all DEVCOMS-organized training programmes
• Develop a method of generating feedback, ongoing communication
and tracking impact of training programmes and progress of training
alumni
• Conduct evaluation of training programmes, monitor impact and
feed results into future training exercises
Research and Communication (R & C)
• Writing and production of all organization’s
publications, including newsletters, bulletins, reports etc
• Maintain, manage and update the resource centre and library
• Maintain, manage, update and generate content for the website, SciPH and Reproductive Health Forums
• Monitoring, research and analyses of media publications on
science and public health
• Production of annual reports, project reports and related
publications
• Develop and maintain organization-wide management information
system
• Communication and interfacing with organization’s
stakeholders, especially the media
• Organize monthly roundtable discussion for journalist and other
key stakeholders on relevant or current science and public health
issues.
• Identify and organize DEVCOMS and stakeholders participation at
Fellowships, Conferences and Events at the national and international
levels.
• Daily assessment and dissemination of relevant information from
the organization’s emails and other e-listserv
Policy and
Advocacy (P&A)
• Responsible for all advocacy activities, including meetings,
policy roundtables, networking events, coalition-building activities
etc
• Participation in policy, advocacy and networking events and
activities
• Conduct monitoring of critical science and public
health-relevant policies, legislation and commitments to ensure strong
linkages between policy and intervention
• Develop and maintain a list of personalities and stakeholders
on critical science and public health issues
• Work with R & C unit to analyze and research interventions
on all science and public health-policy related issues
• Implement the policy advocacy components of all DEVCOMS
projects
Broadcast Media (BM)
• Production of all audio-visual programmes
• Maintain, manage and update the studio
• Work with R & C unit to monitor, research and analyze of
media broadcasts on science and public health
• Provide necessary support to journalists from broadcast media
working on science and public health issues
Administration and Finance
• Management of organization and project accounts
• Provide for day-to-day accounting and financial transactions
• Recruitment of personnel and maintenance of personnel records
• Implementation of the personnel policy
• Development of human resource capacities
• Office administration and maintenance
• Staff motivation, welfare and discipline
• Financial procedures and processes
