A Non-Governmental Organization, The Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), has raised the alarm over the increasing number of fake health workers going to markets and public places in Oyo State to administer family planning injections on unsuspecting women.
Dr Hadiza Balarabe, Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has assured women in the state of a “truly free access” to child spacing services with effect from July.
Balarabe gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria, Kaduna State on Monday.
She spoke on the sideline of a three-day workshop on costed implementation plan for child spacing organised by Palladium and Pathfinder International to promote child spacing in the state.

Development Communications Network (DEVCOMS), an NGO, has called for increased funding of family planning services to raise the level of contraceptive use to 36 per cent by 2018.
The organisation’s media specialist, Iliya Kure, said in a paper he presented to mark 2017 Safe Motherhood Week, that current national contraceptive commodities usage was slightly above 15 per cent.

The Association for the Advancement of Family Planning (AAFP) has unveiled its resource centre in Abuja to serve as an information hub on family planning.
Speaking at the opening, chair of AAFP’s board of trustees, Umar Sani Jabbi, Sarkin Yaki Gagi said, "The centre will serve ... for family planning- related matters [to the public] and information for policy makers.”
Gagi said for people in the rural areas to abandon harmful traditional practices and embrace family planning, "advocacy and enlightenment must be continuous. With the resource centre, we can achieve more."
Kaduna State government in northern Nigeria, in collaboration with Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), have introduced programmes aimed at ensuring people in the state fully understand and embrace family planning.
This has resulted in the training and sensitization of relevant stakeholders in different fora towards appreciating the benefits and importance that goes with child birth spacing to the individual, the family, the community and the society at large.
